Make sure you are fall read with these fall preparations:
- Disconnecting Hoses from Hose bibs. Help prevent frozen pipes!
- Clear blocked drains in and around your unit. Leaves can block drains during the fall, which can lead to water pooling/backing up into your space.
- Report water leaking/flooding immediately. If you happen to notice gutters overflowing, or water stains on your ceiling, report this immediately to your manager.
- Secure all loose items on your balcony. Make sure your items are secured incase of strong winds.
Winter Preparations:
- Thermostat Settings: Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature, even when you are away from home. This will help maintain a warm environment and protect your pipes from freezing.
- Faucet Dripping: During extremely cold weather, allow faucets connected to exposed pipes to drip slightly. The movement of water can help prevent freezing and relieve built-up pressure.
- Emergency Preparedness: Create an emergency kit containing essential supplies like flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, water, and a first aid kit. Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures in your area and keep important contact numbers readily accessible.
- Prepare your vehicle: Make sure you have your winter tires installed before it’s too late! Always keep an emergency kit in your vehicle in case of a breakdown or road closures.
